BIM Implementation

This Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation project involved establishing digital modeling protocols and creating comprehensive 3D structural models for a multi-story commercial complex. The project aimed to modernize the design workflow, improve coordination between disciplines, and enhance construction documentation accuracy.

The BIM implementation covered architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) coordination, utilizing Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD Civil 3D as primary platforms. The project established standards for model sharing, clash detection workflows, and quantity extraction for cost estimation purposes.

As BIM Coordinator, I led the digital transformation initiative and established modeling standards for the project team. My key responsibilities included:

• Creating detailed 3D structural models using Autodesk Revit from 2D design drawings
• Establishing BIM execution plans and modeling standards for project consistency
• Coordinating clash detection analysis between structural and MEP systems
• Generating construction documentation and shop drawings from BIM models
• Training project team members on BIM workflows and software tools
• Extracting material quantities for cost estimation and procurement planning
• Managing BIM model versions and maintaining project documentation standards

Challenge 1: Legacy Drawing Conversion
The project required converting extensive 2D AutoCAD drawings into intelligent 3D BIM models. I developed systematic conversion protocols and family libraries, significantly reducing modeling time while maintaining accuracy and consistency across the project.

Challenge 2: Multi-Discipline Coordination
Coordinating between architectural, structural, and MEP models presented frequent clash issues. I implemented regular coordination meetings and established a clash detection workflow using Navisworks, resolving over 200 interferences before construction documentation release.

Challenge 3: Team Training and Adoption
Many team members were unfamiliar with BIM workflows. I organized structured training sessions and created internal documentation guides, achieving full team adoption within the first three months of the project timeline.
